Mick Ronson’s Magic Bus

Here comes the RONSON ROCKER!
The next time you’re up in Hull, choose a greener, smarter, Ronno way to travel and hop on the Mick Ronson bus.
Saturday, Les Morfitt posted this photo on his facebook page and credited it to his “Nef” Paul. This photo is getting many comments including this one from Paul Morfitt:
“Just so you all know, the 8 brand new buses will all be on the road on Service 30 to and from North Bransholme from Monday ! They have all been named after famous people from Hull ! We are doing the offical launch today at 1pm at North Bransholme using 3 of them, but from Monday, you will all be able to see the “Ronson Rocker” !!!! Hope you all get to see it. His name is on the front, the side just past the door and on the rear above the bottom deck window!”
Thanks to Paul and to Les Morfitt for sharing this story.

Remembering Marc Bolan

33 years ago today we tragically lost our metal guru, our electric warrior, the one and only Marc Bolan in a fatal car crash in Barnes, England.  Three decades later his elfin spirit continues to reign through his words and his music. Marc was the real deal; a poet, a guitarist,  a real 20th century superstar and like many of you we’ve pledged to keep Marc in our hearts.  Today and always.

We dedicate this tribute to Gloria and Rolan.

Happy Birthday Kate Bush

Somewhere under the ivy in Kent, England on this very day in 1958  a child was born by the name Catherine Bush.

Today, Weird and Gilly salute Kate and her entire body of work (music, film, dance, performance) as she turns another year young. If you haven’t turned on to her yet, take a moment to discover this multi-talented artist and discover the sensual sound and vision of Kate.

Remembering Harvey Pekar

Harvey Pekar died on Monday at age 70, a real comic book hero.  Born in Cleveland, Pekar was the real deal, a true artist and as authentic as they come. In short, Pekar was our average day superhero.

Creating stories  from the depths of the ordinary grind,  Harvey Pekar is the writer who chronicled his mundane life experiences  in the comic book series American Splendor.   Robert Crumb told the Plain Dealer (1994) that Pekar’s work examined the minutiae of everyday life, material “so staggeringly mundane it verges on the exotic.”

Pekar himself summed it up as revealing “a series of day-after-day activities that have more influence on a person than any spectacular or traumatic events. It’s the 99 percent of life that nobody ever writes about.”

Rest in peace Harvey. Rest in peace.
