Steve Popovich Rest In Peace

We awoke to some very sad news early this morning via the Plain Dealer: Steve Popovich, founder of Cleveland International Records dies at age 68. Steve was a very special man, a great manager and businessman, a music enthusiast and a long time friend. He had a way of turning nearly everything he touched into gold and if he believed in you, the city, state and world would soon follow. Read the rest of this entry »

In honor of David Bowie’s TOY

Last month David Bowie’s unreleased (2002) album TOY leaked on the web. Consisting of his old songs re-imagined and re-recorded, it’s long been anticipated by fans.

The recording of TOY can be found at:  http://bigozine2.com/roio/?p=732

Weeks later the TOY buzz continues as this cute lil’ finger puppet has just arrived in our mailbox. We’re uncertain of who created this number but we’d like to thank Sean ‘Masslayer’ Doherty in Boston for this great surprise! Click here for a PDF file that will instruct you how to make your very own David Bowie TOY! david_bowie

The Rock Hall’s Arch Villains: The Alice Cooper Group

So tomorrow it’s official. The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and Museum induct Alice Cooper! Though the ceremony takes place in New York everyone knows the real party is in Cleveland. Watch the 2011 Induction Simulcast at 8:30PM on MARCH 14th at the RHOF $5.

1100 Rock and Roll Blvd., Cleveland, OH

www.alicecooper.com has this to say:

With their upcoming induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Alice Cooper, is acknowledged as one of the most influential bands in rock history. At inception forty years ago, the group shocked the world so fundamentally that it seems to have taken a preternaturally long time for their incredible talent to be recognized.
In 1970, Alice Cooper flipped hippie ideals on their head and astonished the world, “driving a stake through the heart of the Love Generation,” as the group’s namesake put it.

Stooges Plan Ron Asheton Tribute

Here’s your chance to have ‘a real cool time’ and share in a night dedicated to remembering Ron Asheton from The Stooges.

WHERE: Michigan Theater – Ann Arbor

WHEN: Tuesday April 19th, 2011

WHY:  “The Stooges and I wanted to do a concert in memory of Ron and his music. We’ve chosen to do this in Ann Arbor where our group, our attitudes and our ideals were forged. It really was the birth of a movement. We’re planning to involve musicians across the spectrum from classical to youth groups and have a f—– big blast in memory of Ron. Teenage musicians from the Neutral Zone, Ann Arbor’s teen center will open performing early Stooges songs. I may join them on vocals if they don’t have somebody who can kick my ass. Deniz Tek from Radio Birdman who was Ron’s closest friend in music outside the group is going to join me for a couple of Ron’s best numbers. Henry Rollins who articulates so many things about music so well has volunteered to MC and try yet again to defeat me in a musical duel. He may think he’s got a better chance now that I’m 64, and he’s only 50, we shall see. Henry was given his pick of Stooges songs to perform and he chose a great one.
The full and present Iggy and the Stooges line up will then perform a full set, songs from The Stooges, Funhouse, Raw Power/- James Williamson – guitar, Scott Asheton – drums, Iggy Pop – vocals, Mike Watt and Steve Mackay, Bass and Sax respectively.”
-Iggy Pop

The concert is organized as a benefit for the Ron Asheton Foundation. In turn, this benefits both the music and animal community. Complete details can be found at: http://www.ronashetonfoundation.org/

Tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m. at ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster locations, or by phone at 800-745-3000.

Here comes the RONSON ROCKER!
The next time you’re up in Hull, choose a greener, smarter, Ronno way to travel and hop on the Mick Ronson bus.
Saturday, Les Morfitt posted this photo on his facebook page and credited it to his “Nef” Paul. This photo is getting many comments including this one from Paul Morfitt:
“Just so you all know, the 8 brand new buses will all be on the road on Service 30 to and from North Bransholme from Monday ! They have all been named after famous people from Hull ! We are doing the offical launch today at 1pm at North Bransholme using 3 of them, but from Monday, you will all be able to see the “Ronson Rocker” !!!! Hope you all get to see it. His name is on the front, the side just past the door and on the rear above the bottom deck window!”
Thanks to Paul and to Les Morfitt for sharing this story.
